Volume rendering of tooth 38

1. Bone loss and resorption around tooth 37
Bone loss is present around the entire root circumference of tooth 37. In addition, external resorption is present in the region of the residual root adjacent to the large malformed tooth 38. Overall, tooth 37 appears to have a hopeless prognosis.
Left mandibular nerve inferior to tooth 38
Gemination appears to be present at tooth 38. A large invaginating malformed crown is present at the mesial aspect of the tooth. The distal crown of the tooth appears normal. This geminated tooth contains a single malformed and convoluted root canal system.
The left inferior alveolar nerve canal passes inferior to the inferior aspect of the prominently curved root of tooth 38, and is not compressed.
The adjacent tooth 37 exhibits resorption in the region adjacent to the malformed mesial crown of tooth 38, but does not exhibit caries or displacement.
Axial views of tooth 38
These axial cross-sectional images of tooth 38 demonstrate the inferior passage of the nerve relative to the malformed mesial crown and root of tooth 38. The common root canal system within the tooth is evident in these images.
Mesiodistal views of posterior 3rd quadrant
These mesiodistal cross-sectional images of the posterior 3rd quadrant demonstrate the impingement of the mesial malformed crown of tooth 38 upon the distal surface of tooth 37, as well as the extensive bone loss around the entire root circumference of tooth 37.
Buccolingual views of tooth 38
These buccolingual cross-sectional images demonstrate the invagination in the mesially oriented malformed crown of tooth 38, as well as the extensive bone loss that surrounds tooth 37 in the coronal aspect of the mesial crown of tooth 38.
