1. Oblique crack in tooth 21DB

A small oblique crack is visible within the distobuccal aspect of the coronal third of the root of tooth 21. This is likely the source of the patient's chewing sensitivity. The tooth is at increased risk of complete coronal fracture.

Axial views of tooth 21

These axial cross sectional images demonstrate the normal appearance of the alveolar bone surrounding the root of tooth 21. The oblique fracture plane is not visible from this perspective. Note the presence of motion artifacts in this scan.

Buccolingual views of tooth 21

These buccolingual cross-sectional images demonstrate the intact alveolar bone on the buccal and palatal surfaces of the root of tooth 21. The oblique fracture plane on the distobuccal aspect of the coronal third of the root is positioned supracrestally at the level of the cementoenamel junction.

Mesiodistal views of tooth 21

These mesiodistal cross sectional images demonstrate the normal appearance of the alveolar bone on the mesial and distal surfaces of the roots of tooth 21. The oblique fracture plane is visible at the level of the coronal third of the root.
