Left mandibular nerve buccal to tooth 38M+D

The impacted tooth 38 is horizontally oriented. A normal follicle surrounds the crown of the tooth.

The left inferior alveolar nerve canal courses buccally to the apical third of the mildly curved mesial root of tooth 38, and is moderately compressed. The nerve passes buccally to the root apex of the mildly curved distal root of the tooth and is moderately compressed.

The adjacent tooth 37 does not exhibit caries, resorption, or displacement.

Axial views of tooth 38

These axial cross sectional images of the posterior 3rd quadrant demonstrate the buccal passage of the nerve relative to the mesial and distal roots of tooth 38.

Mesiodistal views of tooth 38

These mesiodistal cross sectional images of the posterior 3rd quadrant demonstrate the horizontal orientation of the impacted tooth 38 and the normal follicle surrounding the crown of the tooth. The adjacent tooth 37 does not exhibit caries, resorption, or displacement.

Right mandibular nerve lingual to tooth 48D+M

The impacted tooth 48 is horizontally oriented. A normal follicle surrounds the crown of the tooth.

The right inferior alveolar nerve canal passes lingually to the root apex of the distal root of tooth 48, and is moderately compressed. The nerve courses lingually to the apical third of the mesial root of the tooth and is moderately compressed.

The adjacent tooth 47 does not exhibit caries, resorption, or displacement.

Axial views of tooth 48

These axial cross sectional images of the posterior 4th quadrant demonstrate the lingual passage of the nerve relative to the distal and mesial roots of tooth 48.

Mesiodistal views of tooth 48

These mesiodistal cross sectional images of the posterior 4th quadrant demonstrate the horizontal orientation of the impacted tooth 48 and the normal follicle surrounding the crown of the tooth. The adjacent tooth 47 does not exhibit caries, resorption, or displacement.
