1. Dilated odontome at site 38
A dilated odontome composed of dentin and enamel is present at site 38. The left inferior alveolar nerve canal passes along the inferior surface of this odontome, and is moderately compressed. The odontome has not had any effect upon tooth 37. The follicle surrounding the coronal region of the odontome is hyperplastic, and has marsupialized through the alveolar crest at site 38. The periodontal ligament space appears to be intact around the odontome, which suggests that it is not ankylosed.
Left mandibular nerve inferior to tooth 38
The left inferior alveolar nerve canal courses inferiorly to the odontome at site 38, and is moderately compressed by the odontome.
Axial views of site 38
These axial cross sectional images demonstrate the periodontal ligament space that surrounds the dilated odontome at site 38, as well as the inferior passage of the left inferior alveolar nerve canal relative to the odontome.
Mesiodistal views of site 38
These mesiodistal cross sectional images demonstrate the enlarged follicle that is present adjacent to the odontome, and the marsupialization of this follicle through the alveolar crest. The enamel and dentin composition of the odontome is evident in these images.
2. Periodontal bone loss at tooth 37
Tooth 37 exhibits moderate horizontal periodontal bone loss. The tooth does not exhibit any periapical pathology, and has not been affected by the dilated odontome at site 38.
