1. Healed simple bone cyst interproximal to teeth 46/47
A well-defined, corticated region of low density and slightly disorganized trabecular bone is present interproximal to the roots of teeth 46 and 47. The contiguous buccal and lingual cortical plates are intact and do not demonstrate any evidence of expansion, and the interproximal crestal bone is intact. The contiguous lamina durae along the roots of teeth 46 and 47 are preserved, but the roots of tooth 47 are tipped distally.
These radiographic findings are most suggestive of a healed simple bone cyst between teeth 46 and 47. Although tooth displacement is an uncommon finding associated with simple bone cysts, the remaining radiographic features and the absence of any changes between the panoramic radiographs from 2011 and 2016 support this interpretation. Follow-up periapical and panoramic radiography is recommended to confirm the static nature of this finding.
Axial views of teeth 46 and 47
These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate preservation of the lamina durae along the roots of teeth 46 and 47 adjacent to the healed simple bone cyst. Note the normal caliber and contour of the overlying buccal and lingual cortical plates.
Mesiodistal views of teeth 46 and 47
These mesiodistal cross-sectional images demonstrate the intact alveolar crest interproximal to teeth 46 and 47. The low density, slightly disorganized trabecular bone pattern within the simple bone cyst suggests this defect has healed.
Buccolingual views of 46/47 interproximal region
These buccolingual cross-sectional images demonstrate the absence of any buccolingual expansion associated with the simple bone cyst interproximal to teeth 46 and 47. The right mandibular nerve canal is unaffected.
