Impacted supernumerary tooth (s) in middle 4th quadrant

The crown of the vertically impacted supernumerary tooth (s) is located interproximal and lingual to the middle thirds of the roots of teeth 44 and 45. There is no evidence of root resorption on the adjacent permanent teeth. Root formation of the supernumerary tooth has not yet commenced. The follicle surrounding the crown of the tooth is normal. No signs of ankylosis are evident. The supernumerary tooth is located superior and lingual to the right mental foramen, and is not in close proximity to the nerve. The crown of the supernumerary tooth can be accessed from the lingual aspect of the alveolar process, interproximal to the middle thirds of the roots of teeth 44 and 45.

Axial views of the supernumerary tooth (s)

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the normal appearance of the follicle surrounding the crown of the supernumerary tooth (s). No signs of ankylosis are present.

Unaffected tooth 44

Tooth 44 is unaffected by the impacted supernumerary tooth (s). The crown of tooth s is positioned distolingual to the middle third of the root of tooth 44.

Unaffected tooth 45

Tooth 45 is unaffected by the impacted supernumerary tooth (s). The crown of tooth s is positioned mesiolingual to the middle third of the root of tooth 45.

Axial views of mid-4th quadrant

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the presence of an impacted supernumerary tooth (s) in the middle right mandible. There is no evidence of root resorption on any of the permanent teeth in this region.

1. Dense bone island forming lingual to 45 and 46M

A partially formed dense bone island is present at the lingual aspect of the alveolar process in the interradicular region of teeth 45 and 46 at the level of the apical thirds of the roots of the teeth. This dense bone island is continuous with the lingual cortical plate, but has a slightly lower density than the adjacent cortical bone, which suggests that it has not reached full maturity yet. This is a nonsignificant incidental finding. There have been no effects on the surrounding structures, and no treatment is required.
