1. Osteomyelitis in posterior third quadrant

The bone in the posterior third quadrant is sclerotic. A large irregularly-shaped sequestering bone fragment is present at the mesial aspect of the extraction socket at site 38. A second zone of irregularly-shaped dense granular bone is also visible in the distal aspect of the extraction socket. This second zone of bone is at risk of sequestration. The overall radiographic appearance is consistent with osteomyelitis. Removal of the sequestering bone fragments would be necessary in order to promote healing.
