Ectopic bone formation with internal marsupialized cystic entity in soft tissue buccal to teeth 24, 25 and 26

Ectopic bone formation is present in the soft tissue overlying the left maxillary alveolar process adjacent to teeth 24, 25 and 26. This entity appears to be associated with the endodontically treated mesiobuccal root of tooth 26. Internally, the entity is comprised of a marsupialized cystic entity that contains an air fluid level. The overall radiographic appearance is suggestive of the formation of a choristoma in the buccal soft tissue adjacent to teeth 24, 25, 26, possibly related to a former pathologic cystic lesion originating at the mesiobuccal root of tooth 26.

Healed post-treatment appearance of tooth 26

Tooth 26 appears normal radiographically. The periodontal ligament space is of uniform width around the root of the tooth and the lamina dura is intact. No signs of periapical pathology are present, which suggests that the treatment of the tooth has been successful. The periradicular bone appears normal and there are no signs of a root fracture.

Normal tooth 25

Tooth 25 appears normal radiographically. The periodontal ligament space is of uniform width around the roots of the tooth and the lamina dura is intact. No signs of endodontic or periradicular pathology are present. No signs of fracture are visible.

Normal tooth 24

Tooth 24 appears normal radiographically. The periodontal ligament space is of uniform width around the roots of the tooth and the lamina dura is intact. No signs of endodontic or periradicular pathology are present. No signs of fracture are visible.

Normal tooth 23

Tooth 23 appears normal radiographically. The periodontal ligament space is of uniform width around the roots of the tooth and the lamina dura is intact. No signs of endodontic or periradicular pathology are present. No signs of fracture are visible.

2. Dense bone island apical to tooth 22

A dense bone island is present within the alveolar process, apical to tooth 22. This dense bone island has not had any effects on its surrounding structures and is a non-significant incidental finding.

3. Mucous retention cyst + mild mucositis in left maxillary sinus

A mucous retention cyst is present on the floor of the left maxillary sinus. Mild mucositis is also present within the left maxillary sinus. These represent non-significant incidental findings.
