Horizontally impacted transposed tooth 13

The crown of the horizontally impacted tooth 13 has extended through the buccal aspect of the alveolar process apically to the interradicular region of teeth 14 and 15. The follicle surrounding the crown of tooth 13 appears hyperplastic. The root of tooth 13 is approximately 95% formed and the periodontal ligament space is visible around the entire root circumference of the tooth, , which suggests that the tooth is not ankylosed. No resorption or damage has occurred to teeth 14 and 15.

Normal tooth 16

Tooth 16 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 13.

Normal tooth 15

The developing root of tooth 15 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 13. The crown of tooth 13 is positioned mesiobuccally to the root apex of tooth 15.

Normal tooth 14

Tooth 14 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 13. The root of tooth 13 is positioned apically to tooth 14 and the crown of tooth 13 is positioned distally to the root apex of tooth 14.

Retained tooth 53

Tooth 53 is retained and does not exhibit any signs of physiologic root resorption.

Horizontally impacted transposed tooth 23

The crown of the horizontally impacted tooth 23 is emerging through the buccal aspect of the alveolar process apically to the interradicular region of teeth 24 and 25. The follicle surrounding the crown of tooth 23 appears slightly hyperplastic. No resorption or damage has occurred to teeth 24 and 25. The root of tooth 23 is approximately 95% formed and the periodontal ligament space is not clearly visible on the distal root surface of the tooth, which raises the possibility of ankylosis.

Normal tooth 26

Tooth 26 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 23. The crown of tooth 23 is positioned mesiobuccally to the mesiobuccal root of tooth 26.

Normal tooth 25

The developing root of tooth 25 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 23. The crown of tooth 23 is positioned mesiobuccally to the developing root apex of tooth 25.

Normal tooth 24

Tooth 24 has not been affected by the impacted tooth 23. The crown of tooth 23 is positioned distally to the developing root of tooth 24.

Retained root 63

Tooth 63 does not exhibit any root resorption and is retained at site 23.

Axial views of maxilla

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the horizontally impacted teeth 13 and 23, which have crowns that are oriented buccally and roots that are positioned between the root apices of the maxillary premolars.

Coronal views of teeth 13 and 23

These coronal cross-sectional images demonstrate the hyperplastic follicles and horizontal orientations of the impacted teeth 13 and 23.
