1. Lytic bone loss adjacent to tooth 36Li: Rule out malignancy
Lytic bone loss is present in the alveolar crest adjacent to the lingual surface of the distal root of tooth 36. The lamina dura is intact around the root of tooth 36, which suggests that the tooth is not the source of this bone loss. Due to the infiltrative radiolucent nature of this bone loss, the possibility of a malignancy should be considered. A biopsy is recommended.
Axial views of tooth 36
These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the lytic bone loss at the lingual aspect of the distal root of tooth 36. No periosteal bone formation has occurred.
Coronal views of tooth 36
These coronal cross-sectional images demonstrate the loss of bone at the lingual surface of the alveolar crest adjacent to the distal root of tooth 36.
