1. Tooth 18 developed within transverse septum in right maxillary sinus
Tooth 18 is distoangularly oriented and superiorly displaced into the right maxillary sinus. The tooth has developed within a transverse septum in the right maxillary sinus. The follicle around the crown of tooth 18 is hypoplastic and continuous with a narrow ridge of the sinus floor. The crown and coronal third of the root of tooth 18 exhibit extensive external resorption. The residual antral air space is clear. The crown of tooth 18 can be accessed from the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus distal and apical to the root apices of tooth 16. However, treatment may not be required.
Axial views of tooth 18
These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the presence of extensive resorption involving the crown and coronal third of the root of the impacted tooth 18.
Sagittal views of tooth 18
These sagittal cross-sectional images demonstrate the elevated sinus floor which is continuous with the crown of tooth 18. Tooth 18 has been displaced superiorly.
Coronal views of tooth 18
These coronal cross-sectional images demonstrate the proximity of the crown of tooth 18 to the lateral wall of the right maxillary sinus. Surgical access to the crown of tooth 18 could be achieved through the lateral wall of the sinus slightly distal and apical to the root apices of tooth 16. The residual antral air space is clear.
