Evaluation of maxillary implant sites
Adequate bone exists for implant placement at site 22. Marginal bone levels are present at sites 13, 11 and 21. Inadequate bone is available at sites 17, 16, 15, 14, 24, 25, 26 and 27.
Axial views of maxillary arch
These axial cross sectional images demonstrate the extensions of the maxillary sinuses into the regions of the first premolars. The nasopalatine duct limits the available bone for implant placement at sites 11 and 21.
Clear right maxillary sinus
The right maxillary sinus is clear. A transverse septum is present on the sinus floor apical to sites 16 and 17. There are no impediments to a potential right maxillary sinus lift.
Opacified left maxillary sinus
Severe mucositis or sinusitis is present in the left maxillary sinus. This is a contraindication to a potential left maxillary sinus lift.
Evaluation of mandibular implant sites
Adequate bone exists for implant placement at sites 46, 43, 42, 41, 31, 32 and 35. Inadequate bone is available at sites 47, 36 and 37.
Axial views of mandibular arch
These axial cross sectional images demonstrate the limited buccolingual bone width available for implant placement in the posterior 3rd quadrant, as well as the adequate bone depth available in the anterior mandible. The alveolar crest is narrow in the anterior mandible, so the implants are positioned subcrestally.
1. Implant displaced into left maxillary sinus
Implant 25 has been displaced into the left maxillary sinus. The implant is positioned anteriorly to the transverse septum on the sinus floor. Moderate sinusitis is present within the left maxillary sinus. An oro-antral communication is present.
2. Oro-antral communication at site 25
An oro-antral communication is present at the buccal aspect of the alveolar crest at site 25.
3. Mild peri-implant bone loss at site 23
Mild bone loss is present around the coronal aspect of the implant at site 23. This bone loss extends around the coronal two thirds.
4. Bone loss on implant 12
Localized bone loss is present on the distal surface of implant 12. This bone loss extends to the midroot level.
Normal mandibular implants
All of the mandibular implants appear normal radiographically.
