1. Vertical periodontal bone loss on tooth 48Bu

A localized zone of vertical periodontal bone loss is present on the buccal surface of the root of tooth 48. This bone loss extends to the level of the apical third of the root and is likely the source of the patient's symptoms in the region. Extraction of tooth 48 would be curative.

Coronal views of tooth 48

These coronal cross-sectional images demonstrate the localized vertical bone loss that is present on the buccal surface of the root of tooth 48. The inferior alveolar canal is not in close proximity to the tooth. The roots of tooth 48 are positioned near the lingual borders of the alveolar process.
