Implant 47 impinges upon right mandibular nerve canal
The implant at site 47 impinges upon the right mandibular nerve canal. Approximately 80% of the canal cross-section has been obstructed by the implant. This is likely the source of the patient's symptoms.
Given the long period of time since the placement of the implant, it may not be possible to regain sensation in this region. In addition, removal of the implant may further damage the residual nerve.
Implant 46 impinges upon the right inferior alveolar nerve
The buccal aspect of the apex of implant 46 impinges upon the right inferior alveolar nerve canal. Approximately 40% of the cross-section of the canal is obstructed by the implant. This may be a potential source of the patient's symptoms, but is of less of a concern than implant 47 as it pertains to paresthesia.
Sagittal views of implant 46 and 47
These sagittal cross-sectional images demonstrate the extension of implant 46 and 47 into the inferior alveolar nerve canal.
Axial views of posterior fourth quadrant
These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the lingual positions of the implant apices within the right inferior alveolar nerve canal.
Coronal views of implant 46 and 47
The level of impingement of each implant upon the inferior alveolar nerve canal is evident in these images. Implant 47 has had a more significant impact upon the canal than implant 46.
