Severe root dilaceration on tooth 21

The root of tooth 21 is severely dilacerated relative to the crown. The coronal half of the root of tooth 21 demonstrates a vertical orientation, and the apical half of the root dilacerates buccally. The buccal cortical plate of the maxilla has been remodeled to accommodate the root of tooth 21.

Axial views of tooth 21

These axial cross-sectional images demonstrate the buccal dilaceration of the apical half of the root of tooth 21. The adjacent buccal cortical plate has been remodeled in this area to accommodate the root of tooth 21. The periradicular bone surrounding the root of tooth 21 appears normal.

Buccolingual views of tooth 21

These buccolingual cross-sectional images demonstrate the dilaceration of the root of tooth 21. These images also demonstrate remodeling of the buccal cortex of the maxilla to accommodate the buccally positioned apical half of the root of tooth 21.

Mesiodistal views of tooth 21

These mesiodistal cross-sectional images demonstrate the buccal position of the apical half of the root of tooth 21. The periradicular bone surrounding the root of tooth 21 appears normal.

1. Acute sinusitis of right maxillary sinus

The anteroinferior portion of the right maxillary sinus captured in this imaging volume demonstrates complete opacification, an appearance most suggestive of acute sinusitis. Correlation with clinical signs and symptoms is recommended.
