Example of situation where following an imaging protocol would have improved the scan. This scan was an 8x8cm scan, but the region of interest is just tooth 27 for an indirect sinus lift. The scanner position was not adjusted prior to the scan to center the field on tooth 27
. A smaller field could have been selected. The scan was not checked to ensure that the region of interest was fully captured. All these things could have been addressed with a scanning protocol that is customized for each patient, rather than setting the scanner in one position and one size, and hoping that it will accommodate most of one's scanning needs.
