Your Canaray Appointment

You will receive a booking email from Canaray once your dentist makes a referral. This email will give you access to the Canaray patient portal, which will allow you to book/cancel appointments and download all the forms you require such as insurance forms, receipts and invoices. After your appointment is over, you can return to the same portal to access your imaging data.

Online
Online booking and email communiction provides easy access to your Canaray case.
Appointment
Your visit will typicallly take 15-30 minutes but we will continue working on your case as we prepare your dental report.
Scan
Canaray staff will use specialized equipment to take a deeper look at your teeth.
Your Radiology Report

After your imaging appointment is over, our data processing and radiographic reporting teams takes over. We will process and analyze your imaging data, and will put it into a tidy presentation format that allows you and your dentist to clearly understand the diagnoses made by our oral radiologists, and to allow your dentist to effectively plan your treatment.

Scan processing
Canaray staff will digitize and process the raw data from your imaging so that our team of oral radiologists can use it for your report. This step also makes your data visible to you online immediately after your appointment.
Report
Our team of oral radiologists will analyze your digital dental radiographic data and will provide individualized diagnostic information in a detailed dental report.
Treatment Plan
Your dentist will use the Canaray report and data as a guiding tool to understand more details about your teeth, and will subsequently develop a course of action.
CBCT: Endodontics

Endodontics is the study and treatment of the internal tooth structure called the dental pulp. Dental pulp is the soft connective tissue that has nerves and blood vessels.

Problem
If bacteria enters the tooth and reaches the dental pulp, it can cause a painful infection. Before the external surface of the tooth can be repaired with a filling or a dental crown, this infection of the pulp will require treatment.
Process
Canaray's high resolution 3D CBCT scan of your tooth provides your dentist with the ability to assess all the internal and external surfaces of your tooth. This provides more diagnostic information than a typical 2D intraoral x-ray, and also helps the dentist plan their treatment approach.
Result
The diagnostic information provided by the thorough 3D x-ray investigation of your tooth is combined with the dentist's clinical findings, and a final diagnosis is reached. If your tooth can be saved, the dentist will proceed with a root canal treatment. If your tooth is cracked or the amount of damage is too extensive, the tooth may require removal.
CBCT: Impacted Tooth

An impacted tooth is one that has been blocked from surfacing, either due to the lack of space, an obstruction, or an eruption path in the incorrect direction. Wisdom teeth and canines tend to most commonly be affected, but any tooth can become impacted

Problem
Impacted teeth can harm the surrounding structures or can develop with a malformed shape if allowed to remain impacted. Tooth spacing issues and alignment issues can occur in the surrounding area adjacent to an impacted tooth. Impacted wisdom teeth can become intertwined with your mandiubular nerve.
Process
Canaray's 3D CBCT scan will aquire a 3D xray of the impacted tooth and the surrounding area. This allows the dentist to assess the problem in a more definitive way than by looking at regular 2D xrays. In addition, the relationship of the tooth to important adjacent structures can be assessed.
Result
After examining the 3D CBCT scan and the Canaray report, the dentist is able to formulate a treatment plan for the tooth, which could include: leaving it alone, exposing it and moving it with orthodontics, or removing it completely.
CBCT: Orthognathic Surgery

If the alignment of the jaws does not allow teeth to bite together in a typical manner, or if one jaw is oversized or undersized , corrective orthognathic surgery can be considered

Problem
When jaws are oversized or undersized relative to each other, it can affect your bite or your facial appearance. In order for the surgeon to be able to decide what needs to be adjusted and how it should be adjusted, they need to examine your jaws and skull in 3D
Process
The 3D CBCT scan at Canaray captures your entire face and base of skull, which will allow the dentist to understand how severe the situation is in order to provide the proper treatment. This 3D scan can also be used for computer-aided treatment planning and 3D modeling of your surgery
Result
Depending on the outcome of the 3D treatment planning by your dentist, a plan will be created to reposition sections of your jaws in a more aesthetic or functional position. The surgeon follows this plan during surgery.
CBCT: Implant Planning

A dental Implant can be a solution to fill the space of a missing tooth. The implant itself replaces the roots a lost tooth with a metal screwlike structure to function similarly to a root. A crown (cap) can be placed on the implant.

Problem
When a gap exists in your smile, there are various ways to fill the gap, such as dentures, or building a bridge between the teeth adjacent to the gap. But these solutions often have drawbacks that can be solved with dental implants.
Process
Implants are screwed into your jaw bones. To help your dentist assess whether you have enough bone of good quality for implants, Canaray offers a clear set of scans and measurements for the dentist going into the implant surgery.
Result
The dentist assesses the 3D measurements and report provided by Canaray to place the implant. After the implant is solidly connected to your bone, a tooth can be placed on the implant that looks and functions like a normal tooth.
CBCT: TMJ

The Temporomandibular joint is a sliding hinge that lets your jaw have a variety of movements.

Problem
Problems with the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) can cause the pain in the jaw, clicking, or a limited range of motion.
Process
Canaray can take a 3D CBCT scan of the joints that will allow the dentist to understand and evaluate the bone of the joints. The soft tissue of the joints is not visible in our scans. Only an MRI can show the soft tissues.
Result
The dentist can combine their clinical findings with Canaray's report and 3D scan to diagnose your condition with your TMJs. Based on the results, a treatment regimen can be initiated, or MRI imaging could be ordered for further information.
CBCT:Bone Pathology

Bone pathology is the study of diseases of the bone. This can include investigations to see if diseases, cysts or tumors are present in the bone.

Problem
Any unexplained pain or swelling in the oral cavity, or an unusual finding in your bone or teeth on a regular x-ray can be important to evaluate so that we can know what condition you have.
Process
Canaray's 3D CBCT scan of the area will capture the area of interest and an oral radiologist will offer a diagnosis. Often, a radiologist's diagnosis is not a final diagnosis, but a starting point for potential further investigations (such as a biopsy) or for your dentist to watch and wait.
Result
With the scan and radiologist's report, the dentist can diagnose and help the patient figure out the next steps would be: biopsy, treatment, or no treatment.
Surgical Guide

Surgical guides can be created via computer-aided design and 3D printing. To create a surgical guide, we need a CBCT scan and a digital model of your teeth or dentures. Canaray works with your dentist to design an implant plan and guide that is unique to you. The guide is placed in your mouth during surgery, and assists your dentist with obtaining the proper angulations and positions of implants during surgery.

Panoramic radiograph

This is a common and inexpensive image that provides your dentist with an overview of all your teeth and both jaws. The image takes about 5 minutes to set up and acquire, and you will receive a printed copy when you leave the office.

The digital version of the image is available online immediately to both you and your dentist. The radiologist's report is usually available in 1-4 days.

Cephalometric X-rays

Cephalometric x-rays are common 2D views of your skull or your wrist. The skull views are often used to assess your skeleton for orthodontic treatment. The wrist view is used to assess a patient's skeletal age.

Lateral Ceph
This xray is always required for orthodontic treatment. There is a procedure called "ceph analysis" that is applied to this xray to measure your skeletal and dental characteristics in order to choose the correct orthodontic treatment. Canaray provides this additional service at no charge with A.I. automation!
PA Ceph
This xray of the skull helps dentists evaluate left/right asymmetry of the jaws and skull, and is often ordered for assessment for orthognathic surgery.
Wrist Xray
For certain dental procedures, your dentist needs to know that your skeleton has stopped growing. By assessing the bones of your hand and wrist, we can determine your skeletal age in order to let your dentist know whether you have completed skeletal growth or not.
Clinical Photos

A complete clinical photo series is necessary for orthodontic treatment records. These images can also be aquired prior to implant surgery or dental reconstructive surgery. At Canaray, our images follow the standards of the American Board of Orthodontists.

The images are available online immediately to both you and your dentist.

Digital Impressions

3D facial scans are immediately available online upon acquisition at Canaray.

Why patient email addresses are required
Last revised: May 3, 2022

INTRODUCTION

After the first major Covid-related shutdown in March 2020, Canaray was required to adjust our clinic services to accommodate an appointment-based schedule, rather than the walk-in clinics that we operated for the prior decade. We built a new system to allow us to efficiently, securely and safely manage the large numbers of referrals that we manage on a daily basis. After careful thought and consideration, we were able to build our upgraded system around a patient-centric self-serve online system. This system requires a unique patient email address in order to function.

WHY WE NEEDED TO DO THIS

Canaray differs from most other referral-based services in two ways:

  • Every patient is a new patient that we only see one time for a short appointment
  • Canaray creates a brand new patient chart every 5 minutes of every workday

Canaray is entrusted with ensuring that every patient's data will be correct, safe and secure, despite the high patient and data volumes we manage for thousands of clinicians and referring offices across the country. To handle this uniquely high quantity of dental data, patients and referrals, we need a system that's more foolproof than the typical referral system.

WHY THIS IS BETTER

By switching to a completely digital communication platform for all our referring clinicians and patients, we are able to provide many more conveniences and digital benefits that are simply not possible with paper and telephone.

Patient Benefits

  • The system is designed to automatically and gracefully halt a patient's case if any contact information is incorrect. This prevents communication errors and also prevents medical information privacy breaches
  • The referral details, pricing, and completed insurance preauthorization forms are available to the patient for download immediately upon the creation of the referral by the referring clinician
  • Patients can book and cancel appointments online independently. Patients have access to our complete schedulers at all clinics with no blackouts
  • Patients have immediate download access to their imaging data upon conclusion of their imaging appointment at Canaray.
  • Patients are able to track their case completion process/status, and view processing data even prior to the completion of the report
  • The invoices, receipts and all insurance forms are automatically sent to the patient digitally
  • Patients can securely and efficiently share their data with anyone that has an email address . Patients can also revoke access to data to anyone at any future time

Clinician benefits

  • The most imporant benefit to clinicians of Canaray's new system is that it allows us to provide you with a product that has no paper equivalent. Canaray's work simply cannot be converted into a hard copy anymore. As a true digital dentistry product, it must exist online digitally, and for us to deliver it to you, we need our patients and referring clinicians to exist online digitally as well.
  • Easy and intuitive data sharing with tracking and revokation privileges
  • A smooth, easy-to-use patient list that can handle unlimited numbers of patients with unilimited data
  • Many convienent online converters for each of the types of digital products we produce, so that you can download what you want in the format that you prefer
  • A.I. automations permit us to provide more views, more slices, more information and more consistency than would be possible manually
  • Our new system is a true 3D workspace. Our reports exist in 3D , and every report is actually a 3D report that contains a full online 3D DICOM viewer. In addition, we can display all the patient's full-color 3D models (such as digital impressions and facial scans) online.
  • Our system also permits clinicians to test various implant sizes at each prospective site in the 3D viewer, and will soon permit you to download the 3D data to print your own implant surgical guides
  • No service degradation, regardless of scale. Our system will no longer get bogged down with surges in referrals
  • Finally, our evergreen system is continuously being updated (often multiple times per day), so Canaray just gets better every day
  • IS THERE ANY OTHER OPTION?

Of course, there will always be a minority of clinicians and patients who do not wish to use a digital system or who do not have an email address yet. For these clinicians and patients, we can still offer the following assistance:

    • If you do not have an email address, you can quickly and easily sign up for free secure email at ProtonMail . It takes 30 seconds. No ads, encrypted, safe, and completely free for less than 500MB of storage.
    • If you do not wish to use Canaray's digital referral system, please choose from a list of nearby alternative providers

Please see the list of alternative providers below. Canaray does not endorse any specific provider. These are simply providers found from Google searches of locations near our clinics:
